New York City's heavy rain is 'new normal' due to climate change, governor says

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared that the torrential downpours and flash flooding in New York City were a result of climate change and may be the "new normal." Nearly eight inches of rain fell, causing major disruptions to the subway and commuter rail services. Hochul declared a state of emergency and warned of "life-threatening" floods. Despite the heavy rain, no fatalities were reported.
